This is heartbreaking. After an astounding 14 years on the air, ‘Degrassi: The next Generation’ will end its run on TeenNick this summer. We’ve got all the deets on the final days of high school!

Looks like school is officially out. Degrassi: The Next Generation, the teenage drama that has been entertaining audiences since 2001, will officially conclude on TeenNick, the network announced on June 4. The series will wrap with a two week event, beginning with an hour-long episode on July 20, and culminating in an hour finale on July 31.

So long, kids. The controversial Canadian series will wrap, according to an official word from the network.

“For an incredible 14 seasons, Degrassi has been a groundbreaking show tackling so many important topics that real teens face in their everyday lives,” Keith Dawkins, SVP and general manager, Nicktoons, TeenNick and Nick Jr, said. “In the final episodes on TeenNick and through the hour-long special and social activations, we hope to say goodbye in a way that is both fitting to the show and Degrassi’s passionate fan base.”

We know, we know, we’re sobbing too. But let’s think about all the good times we’ve had with the show, as well as everything that Degrassi has given us– including some major names!
The Famous Alum Of ‘Degrassi’

Very famously, rapper Drake, who is now known around the world for his musical stylings, actually got his start on the Canadian drama. Drake (whose real name is Aubrey Graham), played high school basketball star, Jimmy, who was at the center of one of the series’ most dramatic and iconic episodes. When a disturbed student brought a gun to school, he shot Jimmy in the back, paralyzing him from the waist down and effectively ending his basketball career.

Also appearing on the series, Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev had a recurring arc during the show’s sixth season, playing the show’s first teen mom. 90210 star Shenae Grimes also served some time walking the halls of Degrassi High in 2004.

Are you upset that Degrassi is ending?

The site has some changes that will be coming. I know that I promise almost a year ago that the site would be in fact moving to a new domain but I am sad to confirm that it will NOT be moving to Cassie-Steele.org but Cassie-Steele.net. When it was time to renew the .org I couldn’t afford it and so therefore I went with the .net. I am at the moment uploading all the stuff for you guys onto the new domain and will begin to revamp the entire content. I’m hoping to have this done no later than June or July 2015.. Please bare with me.

In Cassie news, there is no new news to report on Cassie as she has been staying out of the spotlight and spending time with her dogs and working on new music.

January 7, 2015 Interviews

Cassie Steele is over the gossip and drama (of high school, that is). After portraying the rambunctious, boyfriend-stealing Manny Santos for 10 seasons of Degrassi: The Next Generation, the Toronto native is ready to shift gears. Since graduating from Degrassi High, Cassie searched for stardom as Abby on the short-lived LA Complex and went back to college in MTV’s horror/thriller The Dorm. When she’s not spending her time on a movie set, the 25-year old can be found in the recording studio. With a single and an EP released within the last year, there’s plenty of promise from this aspiring starlet. The triple threat caught up with MAXIM to talk about looking like Kanye, her new EP, and the art of a good laugh.

I’m Canadian so I say ‘eh’ a lot and now that I’ve flown down to California, I’ve started to say ‘like’ like a lot. See, there I go. I tried to replace it by saying ‘fucking’ like ‘fucking, fucking’ you know? Just so it gives it a little personality.

I really like to write, and short stories are my thing.
I’d love to write a novel. It keeps me busy at night. So I’d probably like to pursue that or try and get better at writing.

If you haven’t checked it out by now, you should check it out The Dorm. It’s my latest film, and it is this really cool, creepy, psychological thriller I did with MTV.

Penelope Cruz looks amazing right now. She’s definitely my girl crush, she’s so gorgeous. She just oozes sexuality.

I wish I had some free time, but laundry is a never-ending thing. Like I really have to do my laundry and it’s just never done. I need to do it, even like right now, probably after this interview.

A man can get my attention if he’s funny.
I really don’t like cocky guys. I don’t like people who can’t just laugh at themselves.

I’m not a big fan of a heavy meal. If I’m going to dinner, I like somewhere that’s fun, like a bar scene. You don’t have to feel so uncomfortable because it’s social. I don’t really go on many dates. A no pressure situation is key.

Kanye West has the best style. I don’t know, there’s just something about it. If I were a guy I would emulate that, hands down.

I like a nice beard, but in terms of anywhere else, I don’t think you need to necessarily go as far as waxing. Just don’t give yourself a thousand razor bumps. It’s so much easier for guys, keep it neat and keep it tidy.

You aren’t going to be happy until you’ve reached your personal goals. I just really want to get to a place where my creativity will inspire somebody else or would be very different and still relatable; just something new, that no ones done.

The Dorm is set to make its debut on Sunday, October 26th as part of MTV’s Halloween-themed programming. Today, we have a look at the trailer for the supernatural thriller which was directed by Rachel Talalay (Freddy’s Dead, Tank Girl) and scripted by Halloween: Resurrection‘s Sean Hood.

The film follows a student, Vivian (Alexis Knapp) who begins college as a shy, self-consciousness freshman but who, after becoming a dorm mate of the popular Sarah (Cassie Steele), begins a complete transformation.

Jake Croker, Max Lloyd-Jones and Laci J. Mailey co-star.

Shooting took place at the start of this year in Canada. Nomadic Pictures shepherded the project; the company is also behind Fargo and Hell on Wheels.
